Rose Kingsley: This Is My Life

Rose Kingsley made a name for herself as a 4 octave singer for the Metropolitan Opera before transitioning into the jazz idiom. Here, the diva is with a sensitive and adroit team of Bob Corwin/p, Danny Flahive/b and Doug Dean/perc who provide her with simpatico support on this collection of standards.
Her voice has a fragile and delicate quality that works the vibrato well on “Here’s To Life” and “Send In the Clowns.” There’s a vulnerability to her voice that teeters but keeps on the tightrope on the gentle intro to “In The Wee Small Hours” while she gets a bit bluesy on the sepia toned “One For My Baby.” Corwin does the work of a veteran catcher using soft hands to handle “Send In The Clowns” and the melancholy “Come In From The Rain.” Lots of heart delivered from this soul.
